Budanov acknowledged that progress has been slower than desired, attributing it to the proliferation of Russian “kamikaze” drones and the large concentration of Russian mines scattered across the region. These factors have significantly impeded Ukraine’s advancements in the ongoing conflict.
Russia, on the other hand, has claimed that Ukraine’s counteroffensive has faltered. Despite the differing narratives, Budanov emphasized the difficult nature of the situation on the ground. The volatile weather, combined with relentless opposition from entrenched Russian forces, creates a challenging environment for Ukraine’s troops.
