Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Advises Players to Delete Early Access Version and Mods Before Official Launch
In a surprising turn of events, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian, has recommended that fans delete the Early Access version of the game along with their save files and mods. This announcement comes just days before the highly anticipated official launch date of August 3. The purpose behind this advice is to ensure a smoother gaming experience and to reduce the risk of file conflicts during the final game download.
One of the major concerns raised by Larian is the hefty installation size of the launch build. Players will need to clear up a whopping 122GB of space in order to install the game, and unfortunately, preloading will not be an option. This means that players will have to download and install the game as soon as it becomes available on August 3 at 8am Pacific / 11am Eastern / 4pm UK.
To avoid unnecessary complications, Larian suggests launching the game first, deleting all save files and removing mods before actually deleting the game. This will prevent automatic re-downloading of files that might cause conflicts. It is important to note that deleting save files within the game itself is recommended to ensure that both Steam Cloud and Larian Cloud are updated server-side to reflect the deletions.
The decision to move the PC version’s release date forward from August 31 to August 3 was made to avoid competition with Bethesda’s highly anticipated Starfield. However, the release dates for the Xbox Series X and S versions are yet to be announced, while the PlayStation 5 version is slightly delayed and will be available on September 6.
In terms of gameplay, players can expect a substantial time commitment. Larian estimates that a standard playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 will take anywhere between 75 to 100 hours. For completionists, this time can easily be doubled as they strive to explore every nook and cranny of this highly immersive RPG.
