NATIONAL Instruments has announced vision capabilities for its NI CompactRIO and NI Single-Board RIO programmable automation controllers and embedded systems.
According to the company, customers can now access advanced control, measurements and vision within a single system, reducing physical footprint and system complexity.
The devices can not only be used for measurement and control, but also in autonomous and semi-autonomous robotics applications involving obstacle avoidance, pattern recognition and simultaneous localisation and mapping capabilities.
Robots using those controllers will be able to undertake industrial surveillance, machine condition monitoring, and critical vessel monitoring.
The company says its vision acquisition software has expanded to support Internet Protocol cameras. To process images, engineers can use the NI Vision Development Module 2009 software to program and deploy image processing libraries to CompactRIO and NI Single-Board RIO deployment targets.
