Intercad has released SolidWorks 2010, its 3D CAD/CAM software for designers.
The software includes a built-in lifecycle assessment module to take the guesswork out of designing greener products. It also features a mouse gesture-aware user interface that allows users to assign popular shortcuts to mouse 'gestures' to make repetitive tasks quicker to complete.
The rapid dimension tool automatically spaces dimensions evenly and the mirror component maintains the position of mirrored components relative to seed components. Users can also create motion simulations based on events, time and actions with event-based motion simulation features to improve design flexibility.
The built-in SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress module allows users to consider how and where materials are produced, parts are manufactured and products are used and discarded. Users can see in real-time where raw materials can be sourced.
The software also features multibody support for sheet-metal parts to simplify the creation of sheet-metal designs, the DXF/DWG property manager which exports sheet-metal files to dxf or dwg files and allows users to confirm and edit the contents of the export file, and the configuration publisher which enables users to manipulate rules to define configurations of a model.
Uploading designs to 3D ContentCentral allows suppliers to share product models, while the software also has the capacity to facilitate revisions of multiple part numbers within a single file.
