PARKER Hannifin has released the AC650S series of simple AC drives for permanent-magnet motors up to 7kW.
The product can be used with the motors without speed sensors, and are suited for fans, pumps, compressors, conveyors and machine tools.
According to the manufacturer, the drives are compact, and offer energy savings when compared to conventional solutions based on induction motors.
The company says while permanent-magnet motors are around 6% more efficient than induction motors, they traditionally needed a position sensor and high-end drive, reducing adoption in the industrial sectors.
The entry-level drives are said to afford precise speed control of brushless AC motors, opening the way for permanent magnet motors to replace induction variants in many industrial applications.
The manufacturer says the product comes with preset parameters which are suitable for most common applications, and commissioning only requires a couple of motor parameters to be set.
