Renesas releases RX62T microcontroller chips for motor controls

The RX62T microcontrollers also integrate a 16-bit general-purpose PWM timer (GPT) capable of driving a 3-phase motor.

RENESAS, distributed by Arrow Electronics in Australia, has released the RX62T microcontrollers suited for use with three-shunt or single-shunt vector-type motor controls.

According to Renesas, the MCUs include MTU3 multifunction timer-pulse units which are specialised for motor control, allowing it to drive up to two 3-phase motors.

The RX62T microcontrollers also integrate a 16-bit general-purpose PWM timer (GPT) capable of driving a 3-phase motor.

Renesas says the combination of timers allow one RX62T microcontroller to control up to three 3-phase motors simultaneously. The timers use the same clock as the MCU, which is capable of 100MHz, enabling the timers to produce a wide range of PWM output waveforms with 10 ns resolution.

The floating-point unit (FPU) and analogue functions built into the RX62T MCU is said to be suited for use with three-shunt or single-shunt vector-type motor-control methods.
