SICK Safety claims the C4000 Palletiser Advanced safety light curtain will open up new solution potentials for protecting access in handling and warehousing systems.
According to the company, the system meets the maximum safety demands regarding detection and differentiation between objects and persons. It is also said to be compact, easy to install, and can cope with poor operating conditions.
The light curtain is part of the manufacturer’s Entry/Exit portfolio which aim to ensure safety-oriented monitoring of automated material flow systems. It consists of a transmitter and receiver that meets the demands of Performance Level ”e” according to EN ISO 13849 and SIL3 in line with IEC 61508.
While normal light curtains detect objects which interrupt one or more light beams, the advanced product uses the positions and number of interrupted beams for pattern detection.
This allows the system to differentiate between people and process objects. It can also tolerate differing pallet loads, and strapping bands or bits of foil projecting into its monitored field.
The company says in horizontal use, the device requires no supplementary muting sensors, indicator lamps, fences or doors for muting the safety function, due to an inbuilt self-learning pattern detection capabilities.
