National Instruments adds vision to RIO PACs and embedded systems

NATIONAL Instruments has announced vision capabilities for its NI CompactRIO and NI Single-Board RIO programmable automation controllers and embedded systems.

According to National Instruments, customers can now access advanced control, measurements and vision within a single system, reducing physical footprint and system complexity.

The NI CompactRIO and NI Single-Board RIO programmable automation controllers and embedded systems can now not only be used for measurement and control, but also in autonomous and semi-autonomous robotics applications involving obstacle avoidance, pattern recognition and simultaneous localisation and mapping capabilities.

Robots using the NI CompactRIO and NI Single-Board RIO programmable automation controllers and embedded systems will be able to undertake industrial surveillance, machine condition monitoring, and critical vessel monitoring.

National Instruments says its vision acquisition software has expanded to support Internet Protocol cameras. To process images, engineers can use the NI Vision Development Module 2009 software to program and deploy image processing libraries to CompactRIO and NI Single-Board RIO deployment targets.
