ROCKWELL Automation has released the Allen-Bradley Stratix 8300, a Layer 3 managed industrial Ethernet switch.
According to the company, the new unit has the same capabilities as the 8000 model, which is a Layer 2 version, but the Layer 3 functionality allows routing between subnets and VLANs.
The manufacturer says the compact switch provides communication between segmented networks for better performance, security and protection from broadcast storms on the network.
The product was co-developed with Cisco, and uses the current Cisco Catalyst switch architecture, feature set and configuration tools. It can be configured using Rockwell’s RSLogix 5000 programming software, and may be set up and diagnosed from within the Integrated Architecture system.
