KRAUSS Maffei Extrusion, represented in Australia by HBM Plastics Technologies, has developed a system to continuously produce PU insulated pipes.
According to the distributor, this development means it will soon be able to offer foam insulated pipe systems with no length limits, at lower cost, and which are easier and faster to install.
The continuous production system produces pipes made of PE-HD, PE-X, PE-RT or PB on a conventional pipe extrusion line. Pipes with an outer diameter between 20 and 110mm come off the line, and are then wound onto large steel drums.
The products are then transferred to a second line which applies the insulation layer. This layer has a low thermal conductivity between 0.02 and 0.03W/m*K.
The company claims the resulting insulated pipes are ideal as supply lines for geothermal plants, hot water pipes and air-conditioning.
