PEACOCK Bros is now distributing the UPM Raflatac freezer-proof RFID tags for operating in temperatures down to -40°C.
According to the company, RFID can now be used to automate data collection in the receiving and storage of frozen goods and inventory. Previously, low temperatures would drastically reduce the read range and accuracy of RFID technology.
The tags have a Dogbone design, providing for up to 240-bit of EPC memory, 64-bit locked tag identifier code and a 32-bit serial number. They comply with the GS1 EPC Global standards, and can be read through a covering of frost, humid air and wet surfaces.
The product also features a printable white synthetic face which may be printed on with an RFID thermal transfer label printer.
The RFID distributor says the tags can be placed on pallets, cartons and product packaging, and does not require line-of-sight to be read. RFID readers can be installed onto forklifts to automate the process.
