PEACOCK Bros has released the Sky-Trax vehicle mount optical barcode reader which can be fitted to the front of any forklift or indoor truck.
According to the company, the unit will automatically read the label of palletised or bulk materials. The camera contains a high-resolution imaging sensor, high speed processor, memory and lighting.
The manufacturer says the high intensity infrared LED lighting system allows labels to be read in both low-lit and sun-exposed environments, in extreme temperature ranges and the presence of condensation.
The system may be fitted with a selection of lenses and optical filters to suit various environments, and the casing is said to be sealed against dust and water. It also includes an integrated heater for operation within freezers and coolers.
The product can be connected to a compatible vehicle mounted computer to transfer the barcode information for storage or wireless transmission to a WMS. The company claims this provides a cost-effective alternative to RFID solutions.
