FUTURE Fibre Technologies has won the Small to Medium Manufacturer category of the 2009 Governor of Victoria Export Awards.
The company develops fibre optic intrusion detection and location systems in order to secure high value assets and facilities.
The locally-developed technology detects intruders climbing or cutting perimeter fences up to 80km long, with location accuracy better than 25m. The solution does not require power or electronics in the field.
According to the company, it originally focused on developing the use of optical fibres to detect vibrations caused by physical defects or disturbances to structures like bridges, aircraft and pipelines.
The company says it paid particular attention to developing its export market over the past three years. More than 90% of its revenue now comes from export.
