Dual-band secure Wireless-N solution

  • Published: 03/11/2008

NETGEAR, a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, has launched a new VPN firewall for small-to-medium-sized enterprises which offers a combination of flexibility, security and a low price, unmatched in the market sector.

Easy-to-use, high performance firewall delivers small offices with VPN security and wireless dual-band flexibility to combat enterprise-class threats.

The new ProSafe Wireless-N VPN Firewall (SRXN3205) offers secure connection to the Internet, support for a high-speed wireless LAN and the ability for remote workers and offices to securely access the company network. It is also the first product to combine dual-band Wireless-N connectivity with two choices of VPN access - SSL and IPsec VPN.

By incorporating these advanced features, NETGEAR is providing small offices with an enterprise-class networking solution that addresses both top security and wireless performance needs, but at a fraction of the cost.

“SMEs can be more vulnerable to Internet-based attacks because they do not necessarily have the technical expertise or budgets to install and manage the security devices used by larger enterprises,” Australian and New Zealand managing director Ryan Parker said.

“The SRXN3205 Firewall is easy to use and highly flexible, and provides a secure connection to the Internet allowing businesses to improve remote access to the corporate network over low-cost public networks, saving time and money.

”The ProSafe Wireless-N VPN Firewall SRXN3205 has two types of Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnels - Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and IP Security (IPsec).

"SSL VPN tunnels enable secure, clientless, individual remote access to corporate data from any computer without needing to install a software client.

The SSL VPNs support industry-strength encryption algorithms and features such as automatic cache clean-up after session termination to ensure protection and privacy of sensitive data.

IPsec VPN tunnels deliver secure site-to-site tunnels connecting multiple offices together, as well as legacy, client-based remote access.

The sophisticated Firewall also provides denial-of-service (DoS) attack protection, stateful packet inspection (SPI) to curb hacker threats, URL keyword filtering, SYSLOG support, and e-mail reporting.

The SRXN3205 supports up to five SSL VPN tunnels and five IPsec VPN tunnels simultaneously.

In addition to VPN flexibility, the SRXN3205 supports businesses transitioning from slower, legacy wireless networks to draft 802.11n networks. The 5 GHz radio band operating mode provides maximum wireless speeds by creating an overlay network that does not interfere with existing 802.11g and 802.11b networks.

The new Wireless-N devices can then use the 5 GHz radio band to achieve up to 10 times the coverage and up to 15 times the speed of 802.11g networks.

Security features such as WPA, WPA2, and 802.1x with RADIUS support are included.

The device also includes four Gigabit LAN ports.

As with all NETGEAR ProSafe products, the SRXN3205 contains several ease-of-use features to simplify implementation: an “Auto Detect” function connects to a user’s ISP promptly; the Web-based ProSafe Control Centre graphical user interface offers simple configuration screens; an Install Assistant reduces setup time; and an IPsec VPN wizard automates IPsec VPN configuration and creates secure connections to multiple sites.

The NETGEAR ProSafe Wireless-N VPN Firewall (SRXN3205) is compatible with Windows, UNIX, Macintosh, and Linux OS and comes with full 24/7 technical support.

All NETGEAR ProSafe products, including the SRXN3205, are backed by a lifetime warranty and optional ProSupport Maintenance Packages.

It is expected to be available in Australia in December 2008, through value-added resellers, at an estimated Suggested Retail Price of $699.
