The UK manufacturing sector has witnessed a sharp annual decline, the like of which has not been seen since 1981.

Manufacturing output figures in the UK showed the sharpest fall in nearly 30 years, evidence of Britain's deepening recession.

Manufacturing output fell by a worse than expected 2.9 per cent in November with the annual drop in production of 7.4 per cent the biggest since June 1981.

Elsewhere in Europe, industrial output in Germany for November experienced a 10 per cent fall, its biggest in 15 years pulled down by a sharp downturn among manufacturers.
