Client:
Whico Plastic Solutions, a supplier of quality vacuum formed plastic products for the automotive industry, heating ventilating and air conditioning, and general industry.
Integrator:
Marand Precision Engineering
Problem:
The client received a large order for the supply of vacuum formed plastic parts for the automotive industry.
The form needed to be cut from the parent sheet and trimmed to size.
Manual trimming was time consuming, expensive and quality was variable.
This was coupled with a high number of different parts to be trimmed and new products regularly coming online. The client required a more flexible system.
Solution:
EQUIPMENT
« One KUKA KR180L150F Robot.
« KUKA CAMRob Software.
« Servo controlled machine spindle, installation & training.
KUKA provides the only proprietary software that will convert CAM machining programs into a robot path.
CAMRob converts a CAM program developed directly from the CAD model by Delcam, or Surfcam into a robot path.
This allows a robot to be used for machining applications without complex manual programming.
Robots provide a cheap alternative to a five-axis machining centre for many applications such as trimming plastic parts or producing 3D models, moulds, or patterns.
KUKA CAMRob provides simulation and visualisation of the milling process and cell.
Additionally, the product checks for collision and robot singularity, and supports tool change.
The client now has a flexible production system with the ability to quickly introduce new products for processing directly from the product model.
Benefits:
• Robot path derived from CAD model
• Ease of use
• Reduced labour costs
• Improved productivity
