Stay cool with membrane technology

WL GORE and Associates has introduced a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane for its range of cooling filters, giving users up to 20% improved thermal cooling.

The filters improve thermal cooling while reducing capital and operating costs in wireless base stations, base band units, power cabinets, switching systems, and other outdoor electronic enclosures.

Constructed with a new membrane technology, the filter improves thermal cooling by allowing higher airflow through the filter.

The membrane protects electronic components by preventing fine contaminants such as dirt, dust, and sand from entering the enclosure.

By increasing airflow while reducing potential contaminant damage, the filter improves overall reliability of telecommunications infrastructure.

The filter includes a lightweight frame designed into the filter, and is said last up to 20 % longer than its predecessor.

Unlike bulky heat exchangers and air-conditioning systems, direct-air cooling systems have very few moving parts, reducing equipment maintenance costs.

The membrane technology reduces operating expenses by lowering the filter pressure-drop by 60%, which reduces the amount of energy required by fans to efficiently cool sensitive electronics.

The technology behind the filter is based on a proprietary expanded PTFE membrane.

This micro-porous membrane allows cool, clean air to flow into the cabinet while filtering out harmful contaminants.

Expanded PTFE membrane has 99% particle filtration efficiency at the 0.3 µm level.

The filters can incorporate the high-performance filtration media into either a lightweight frame or a rigid anodised aluminium frame, and cabinets fitted with the filters pass IP55 and NEMA 3R requirements.

The filters can be customised to fit small to large base station units for mobile communications and wire-lined cabinets.
