SAFEWORK SA is holding information sessions which will explain licensing changes for high risk work.
The changes will come into effect later on in 2010, and will particularly affect those who operate a forklift, crane, hoist, elevating work platform or pressure equipment, or perform scaffolding, dogging or rigging work.
There will be information sessions about the new High Risk Work Licenses in Hindmarsh, Old Reynella, Mawson Lakes, Victor Harbor, Mt. Barker and Evanston Park from 12 of April to 3 May 2010.
According to SafeWork, the changes aim to make high risk workplaces safer, and will also make the training, assessment and licensing of high risk work consistent across Australia.
The changes include a new type of licence for those who perform high risk work, which will need to be renewed every five years. This licence can only be obtained by persons 18 years or older.
Additionally, high risk work will include forklift and order-picking forklift operation, and the operation of a Self-erecting Tower Crane will be defined as a new class of high risk work.
Most Australian states have partly or fully implemented the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work 2006. SA will begin issuing new High Risk Work Licences later in 2010 subject to Government approval.
