Hon Paul Holloway Some financial relief is on the way for many of South Australia’s lowest paid workers as a result of the state’s Industrial Relations Commission decision on the 2009 State Wage Case.
The commission has awarded an increase of $14 per week.
This will apply uniformly to adult workers on the state minimum wage and to workers who are paid state award rates. Apprentices and juniors will have their wage rates adjusted proportionately.
The decision means adult full time workers paid under state awards will now receive at least $560.65 per week; with the pay rise effective from the 1 October 2009.
The commission described the pay rise awarded today as “sustainable and appropriate.”
State Industrial Relations Minister, Paul Caica, says the decision is welcome news for low-income South Australians in our State IR system and their families.
“This will be welcome relief for these families to help pay their bills and meet their commitments,” he said.
“SafeWork SA will be informing employers of today’s decision and helping them to take the necessary steps to ensure they pay the correct rates.
“And I’m confident that employers will have sufficient time to prepare for the moderate adjustment at the beginning of October.”
The increase applies to those workers in the State Industrial Relations system.
Those workers who are not covered by an award or enterprise collective agreement will also receive $560.65 per week, under the State Minimum Standard for Remuneration (otherwise known as the State Minimum Wage).
State Award wages at rates higher than the minimum will also rise by $14.
