Held recently in Brisbane, Rockwell Automation’s annual technical training forum, RSTechED, provided system integrators, end-users, distributors and OEMs with four days of informative seminars, practical lab work and networking. With an emphasis on education and knowledge-sharing, RSTechED allowed users to gain hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation’s latest software releases, and provided an opportunity to share and discuss ideas with peers and industry experts.
According to attendee, Boyne Smelters automation engineer, Paul Roby, RSTechED is a valuable resource for onsite personnel.
“The hands-on experience that RSTechED provides is invaluable. I can explore the application and get a look, touch and feel of the products coming out,” he said. “The balanced format of RSTechED makes it easy to get the most out of the event. I can spend some of the time listening to lectures and then spend the remainder in the workshops applying the theory.”
For busy engineers like Roby, RSTechED presents an efficient means of coming up to speed with new developments. “I’ve attended RSTechED numerous times. Each time I go back to work with heaps of new technology that I can tell the blokes about,” he said. “If I can only get away for one training session a year, then it’s RSTechEd.”
At this year’s event, Rockwell Automation’s integrated production and performance suite, FactoryTalk, was the main focus of many sessions, providing participants with valuable insight into enterprise resource planning (ERP) linking, manufacturing execution systems (MES) and asset management systems.
For Fonterra automation engineer, Wayne Burling, RSTechED provided the perfect opportunity for the New-Zealand-based engineer to update his knowledge base. “Fonterra employs a range of Rockwell Automation technologies across its global network of dairy foods and pharmaceutical applications,” he said. “The workshops at RSTechED are ideal for gaining practical experience with soon-to-be-released products.
