ABB Australia and the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia (SAE-A) have launched the second Annual National Robotics Innovation Competition.
The competition aims to enhance interaction and collaboration between students, industry, and universities.
The objective of this competition is for university students to develop a project proposal for an innovative and cost effective way to manufacture an existing component or improve a manufacturing process through the use of robot-based automation.
Projects do not have to be automotive related and multiple projects from companies are welcome.
“Employers are being asked to become industry partners and look at their existing manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement through the integration of a robot,” ABB Robotics general manager Paul Gekas said.
“Students will then use this process improvement situation to investigate possible solutions through the consideration of the financial, safety, quality, and environmental elements.”
Entry into the competition allows students to attend free industry-run seminars on everyday business areas such as presentation skills, OH&S, finance, and compliance.
Companies offering projects for the competition should register by July 1, 2008 for second semester projects.
Entry to the competition is at no cost to employers.
