Robotic support expanded in Australia

Romheld Australia has extended its line-up of robotic support equipment with an agreement to distribute products from three new overseas suppliers.

The new agreements cover protective suits that permit robots to work in various environments, dextrous robot hands that replicate the functions of a human hand, and a range of small robots that are approved for working hand in hand with humans.

Roboworld (USA) designs and manufactures a complete range of protective suits from high quality materials such as Kevlar, impregnated nylons and laminated teflons which enable robots to operate in cold rooms, clean rooms, paint shops and in close proximity to furnaces and other very hot environments.

The range of dextrous robotic hands from Shadow Robot Company (U.K.) have 24 movements allowing direct mapping from a human hand and are considered to be the most advanced robot hands in the world. Hands can be fitted with optional tactile sensors for precise control of both delicate handling and power gripping jobs.

The Katana robot system from Neuronics AG (Swiss) is a compact, light weight unit that is approved for direct hand-in-hand operation with human users and operators without the need for safety guards. These are the first generation of robots designed to work alongside and to assist humans in their routine tasks.

According to Peter Hope, general manager at Romheld, these new agreements position his company for future growth, particularly in the areas of personal, service and support robotics.

“These are the robotic growth paths of the future and as the technology/price ratio improves we will see more and more robotic applications emerge. Already the security field is a big user of these advanced systems," Hope said.

“We see ourselves as a unique one-stop-shop, offering everything needed for robot integrators and end users to optimise the performance of industrial robot installations. The addition of Robosuit’s means we can completely dress a robot from head to toe."
