MINISTER for Industrial Relations, John Della Bosca, has invited entries from NSW employees and employers for the 2008 WorkCover SafeWork Awards.

“There are brilliant safety initiatives in workplaces all around the State and the individuals and teams who devised them deserve to be recognised,” Della Bosca said.

“The annual WorkCover NSW SafeWork Awards showcase innovation and excellence and recognise best practice by highlighting industry achievement in workplace safety.”

Nominations for the 2008 Awards open Monday 5 May, 2008, with employers and workers invited to submit written entries in five categories.

Winning entries from the WorkCover NSW 2008 SafeWork Awards will be automatically entered in the Australian Safety and Compensation Council’s National Safety Awards in early 2009.

“I encourage all workplaces to highlight their workplace safety achievements by submitting an entry in this year’s NSW awards,” Della Bosca said.

Categories include:

• Best workplace health and safety management system

• Best solution to an identified workplace health and safety issue

• Best workplace health and safety practices in small business

• Public sector leadership award for injury prevention and management

• Best individual contribution to workplace health and safety
