Research to enhance modelling of advanced metal forming

The University of Queensland has won grants under the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Projects to enhance modelling capability in advanced metal forming.

The project, undertaken by Associate Professor Paul A Meehan, Dr William J Daniel, Dr Gui Wang, and Dr Matthew S Dargusch, is in partnership with Boeing Research and Technology Australia, and QMI Solutions.

According to the researchers, the project will result in a fundamental understanding of the advanced manufacturing process, leading to a step change from an 'art of expertise' to a scientific understanding and improvement.

The project will develop a design software kernel to better model advanced metal forming, enhancing the manufacture of complex sheet formed products such as aircraft and vehicle panelling.
