ELIOTT Engineering recently employed Power Machinery to retro-upgrade the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems on its large Ursviken press brakes.
On site technicians were able to identify if a machine could undergo a control upgrade.
The technicians then identified what type of control upgrade would be most suitable.
The engineering company has several Ursviken press brakes, but after 13-15 years their Cybelec controls were slightly outdated, while the machines themselves were running well.
According to the company, press brakes of such capacity are a significant capital purchase and the Ursvikens have a long lifespan, so adding the latest control technology for a small cost, and updating the machine’s performance and flexibility was a positive result.
The upgrade took place over a period of six months on four machines, keeping machine downtime to a minimum.
Press brake machines in service at Eliott Engineering include:
- Ursviken 1600 t x 9.5 m
- Ursviken 640 t x 6.1 m
- Ursviken 200 t x 4 m
- BBM 640 t x 7.6 m
- Kleen 750 t x 6.6 m
- Farina 200 t x 4.1m
- Imal 100 t x 3 m
- Pearson 300 t x 5.3 m
- Hydrabend 200 t x 4.9 m
According to Power Machinery very few companies can realistically afford to upgrade their machinery stocks every few years, making retro-upgrading is a viable alternative.
