Radford Meats uses AusIndustry grant for ultra-filtration water reuse system

The ultra-filtration system is expected to recycle up to 90% of the water used at the company’s facility.

RADFORD Meats, based in Warragul, Victoria, has used an AusIndustry Re-tooling for Climate Change grant to install an ultra-filtration system.

The meat company uses about 45.6 megalitres of water per year. Prior to the installation of the new system, the abattoir pumped waste water into the pasture from the settling ponds at the site.

Management recognised using mains or spring water in this volume was not viable in drought conditions, so decided on water recycling as the best option.

The ultra-filtration system is expected to recycle up to 90% of the water used at the company’s facility.

The firm has also modified its refrigeration plant to capture all defrost water for reuse. A side advantage of this approach is a reduced load on the filter system, due to the relative purity of this water.
