Ormec Systems motion controllers and servo drives to be used in aircraft upgrade

ORMEC Systems has been awarded a major contract from Boeing to supply its motion controllers and servo drives for upgrading the C-17 aircraft.

Ormec Systems provides high-reliability motion controllers and networked servo drives. The latest contract incorporates its SMLC motion controllers, SD-Series servo drives and WinCC software.

The products will be used in Wing Join and Major Join tools which are key pieces of equipment in the manufacture and assembly of the airframe. For proper airframe joining, the servo systems and software must be high-precision and high-reliability.

More than a dozen SMLC controllers and nearly sixty SD-Series servo drives will be used for communication, motion control and monitoring of each join tool.

The systems are controlled through operator interface consoles with touch screens and remote pendants. The SMLC controllers are available in 3-, 8- and 16-axis models.
