THE MATHWORKS says General Motors developed its Two-Mode Hybrid power-train control system using its Model-Based Design tools.
GM used MATLAB and Simulink to design the power-train prototype within nine months, 24 months shorter thant he expected development time.
The Two-Mode Hybrid powertrain is part of General Motors’ hybrid program and is used in a variety of hybrid electrical vehicles. It combines a conventional engine with two 60kW electric motors integrated into an automatic transÂmission, and integrates with new components such as battery and power electronics.
According to The MathWorks, GM used Model-Based Design with math and simulation-based tools, allowing engineers with diverse backgrounds to collaborate better.
The engineers, using MATLAB and Simulink, work in a single environment, mathematically visualising the behaviour of the power-train, designing the software, and simulating the entire system.
