The managing director of leading Australian materials handling firm, TC Hasemer, has announced the acquisition of Melbourne company Redfern-Flinn.

Stephen Batten, Hasemer's managing director, said that the acquisition of the Victorian-based crane and hoisting equipment company is part of a long-term growth strategy.

"The purchase of Redfern-Flinn will allow us to gain a direct foothold in Melbourne, which is a major market for the crane and hoist business," Batten said.

"Redfern-Flinn has a proud, 30-year history with a strong record of crane and hoist sales and service. It features an extensive product range and draws its client base from a wide variety of industries across Australia."

The Redfern-Flinn business complements the Sydney based Hasemer operation.

Like its Sydney sister it has a reputation in the marketplace as an expert in the design, supply and servicing of cranes and hoists.

The companies will be able to leverage each other's capabilities and customers to accelerate growth both locally and nationally.

According to Batten, the two companies will also be able to strengthen their offering to customers.

"It will allow Hasemer to increase its product depth and breadth to give customers greater choice.

Among the new product lines will be rail jacks, which are used to lift trains and trams, as well as vehicle hoists, which are used to raise buses and cars."

"Both companies will maintain their identities but intend to amalgamate their crane fabrication facilities to create a centre of excellence in Melbourne that will service the national marketplace.

"The amalgamation of both crane fabrication facilities will allow us to establish a more efficient manufacturing process enabling us to better meet the needs of our customers."

Hasemer also intends to significantly invest in training, and to retain and develop their expert knowledge when it comes to designing purpose-built cranes and other lifting equipment.
