Victorian minister for Industry, Manufacturing and Major Projects, Theo Theophanous, has stood aside while police investigate his involvement in an alleged sexual assault.

Mr. Theophanous' portfolios have been reassigned temporarily however Victorian premier, John Brumby, for the moment, has ruled out permanently reassigning the minister's portfolios.

Mr Brumby says the portfolios have been given to other ministers until the matter is resolved.

He says he is not about to reshuffle the Victorian cabinet in the immediate future.

"There are no plans, no consideration of any type, whatsoever, for any reshuffle, at this point in time," Brumby said.

"But were there to be consideration of that closer to the election, well, I'll tell you at the time."

Brumby said he had complete confidence in the team he has in place.
