Kuka to supply Airbus platforms

KUKA Robotics has received an order from European aircraft manufacturer Airbus to provide mobile platforms for the construction of a new aeroplane.

The company received a blanket order for 41 omniMove mobile platforms over next five years to help build the new Airbus A350 XWB planes.

The units will be delivered to Airbus’ French, British, German and Spanish factories and will be used to sub-assemble the plane’s wings and fuselage.

The company says the platforms feature an extremely flexible horizontal range of motion in all directions and can also rotate on the spot.

They have a specially designed set of wheels that allows them to be manoeuvred in tight spaces.

KUKA has included the omniMove platforms in its portfolio since it purchased them in 2006.
