Insulation installation company charged with death of teenager

Queensland’s Department of Justice and Attorney-General has laid charges against an insulation installing company after the death of a teenage worker.

Arrow Property Maintenance has been charged with breaching section 30 of the Electrical Safety Act 2002 for allegedly failing to conduct its business or undertaking in a way that was electrically safe.

This followed an extensive investigation into the death of the teenage insulation installer in the ceiling of a home on 18 November 2009.

The company has also been charged under section 28 of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995, for allegedly failing to ensure its workers were protected from falls from height.

The 16 year old male worker was electrocuted while installing fibreglass insulation in the ceiling of a home at Stanwell.

The investigation was conducted by inspectors from the Electrical Safety Office and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

The matter will be heard before the Rockhampton Industrial Magistrates Court at 2 pm on 10 August 2010.

  • I hope the charges and subsequent court findings are highly critical of the improper role played by the Liberal Party and the media for politicising and sensationalising this industrial accident.
