Health management workshops for NSW mining industry

INDUSTRY & Investment NSW will be conducting a series of free health management workshops for the NSW mining industry.

The free workshops will present such topics as health management, musculoskeletal disorders and fatigue management for the mining industry. They will be held throughout NSW between April and November 2010.

According to Industry & Investment NSW, the workshops aim to encourage industry to develop management plans to deal with these key health and safety issues.

Industry & Investment NSW says long term health impacts affecting mine personnel are often not as visible as injuries. However, there is substantial cost involved, both to individuals and for the industry in the form of compensation claims and lost productivity.

The workshops will be based on the recently released Mine Safety Advisory Council guides. They are endorsed by the Mine Safety Advisory Council.

Industry & Investment NSW says participants will have the opportunity to use practical tools to develop and implement a systematic approach risk management associated with workplace hazards which impact workers health.
