ABB says Complete Surface Finishing robotic solutions utilising its robots have improved the working conditions and productivity of Frontline Australasia.
The systems were installed at the aluminium component manufacturer’s plant in outer south-east Melbourne.
Frontline manufactures components for the defence and automotive industry, supplying original equipment manufacturers such as Toyota, Ford, General Motors, Mitsubishi and Kia.
To compete against pressures from suppliers in Thailand, Vietnam and China, the company decided to upgrade its technology. CSF Australia was brought in to design, manufacture and install the robotic system.
The entire solution included one twin polishing robotic cell with two IRB 6640 robots, an aluminium robotic welding cell with one IRB 2400 robot and a Fronius welding source, and one water jet robotic cutting cell with one IRB 4400 robot.
According to the companies, the robots greatly improved the quality of the welded aluminium products, abolished dirty manual labour, and enabled a 45% productivity increase.
The robots are said to handle an almost unlimited range of intricate welding patterns, while producing uniformly consistent quality outcomes.
