MACHINESAFE is holding a “Safety of Machinery” workshop which will provide expertise on the updated Australian Standard AS 4024.1-2006.
The practical workshops involve training by members of the committee who redesigned AS 4024.1-2006, including Frank Schrever and Ern Millard.
According to machineSAFE, the training event is suited for anyone who needs an in-depth understanding of machine and automation safety, including project engineers, OHS professionals, electricians, machinery importers and suppliers, and production managers.
Participants will be able to conduct risk assessments and control risks “so far as is reasonably practicable” in line with current OHS law and standards. They will also learn to eliminate hazards and reduce risks so far as is practicable in compliance with the standard and law.
Other topics include managing safety-related parts of control systems and validation, design of controls, interlocks and guarding, emergency stop design, and prevention of unexpected start-up.
The 2006 revision of AS 4024.1-2006 includes a new section on ergonomics. Participants will learn how to use human body measurements and anthropometric data to calculate correct distances, sizes of guards and openings. The positioning of displays, control actuators and signals, indication marking and actuation is also explained.
