KONECRANES has introduced the SMARTON modular crane system to Australia.

According to the company, the product can fit into smaller structures, and allows industrial premises to be smaller. The compact design is also said to enable loads to be put down closer to the wall.

Anti-sway technology automatically prevents loads from swaying, and a shock load prevention feature mitigates sudden jolts caused by loose slings.

The cranes are suited for operations requiring capacities from 160 to 500t, including steel and paper plants, automotive and general manufacturing, energy plants, storage systems, workshops and waste-to-energy facilities.

The manufacturer claims the modularity of the system means customers can select the features they need for their processes.

Regenerative network braking systems feed energy back into the power grid for extra energy efficiency. Electrically, the cranes compensate for voltage variation and power grid disturbances, suppress harmonic distortions, and feature standardised motor voltages.

The company says the system’s human machine interface shows load location, load tonnage, approaching area limits and target position when programmed. It provides advance warning when the crane is approaching its working limits, as well as alerts regarding upcoming maintenance requirements.
